Aston Martin kills the Cygnet

We all suspected it existed to lower Aston's average CO2 emissions. We all knew it was a Toyota iQ underneath. We all knew, at £30,995, it was utterly extortionate. And after spending a few hours in the cultural slum of Park Lane, we all knew that a few people actually bought them. Well, if you've been hesitating about buying one, you'd better make your mind up quick as they're about to disappear.

An Aston Martin spokesperson told Top Gear that production of left-hand drive Cygnets has already stopped, with production of right-hand-drive models ending later this year. Why? The manufacturer claims it wants to concentrate on its core range of sports cars, which is music to our little ears. Though we suspect it might also have something to do with the fact that, according to www.howmanyleft.co.uk, just 143 were registered in 2013...

Despite AM's best efforts, the Cygnet and the impact of its 116g/km emissions was wildly overshadowed by the gnarly - and rather more compelling - V8 and V12 models. With the As-Toy, the company's CO2 average was 294g/km and now it's been axed, that'll rise to 306 g/km. Where that figure will be in the future is currently unknown, but after getting into bed with AMG - and with potential hybrid powertrains on offer - we're guessing lower.

Now, the manufacturer's told us that there aren't currently plans for another city car, but if the company built one, what features would you like to see?
