Blimey. Top Gear has now got nine million Facebook fans

To celebrate, the TG.com writers ponder how they’d spend nine million on cars. It wasn’t easy…

  • Nine million. That's a lot of humans. More than occupy the island of Haiti. More than live in downtown Mexico City. More than 128 times the population of Andorra, and that's a whole country. It's also the number of people that have clicked their electronic rodent over the "like" button on our Facebook page.

In recognition of the scale of our new digital nation-state, we spent a quick hour on Friday afternoon pondering how we'd spend nine million pounds on stone-cold Top Gear approved classics as featured on the show. And this is what we came up with, from cheapest to most expensive...

  • FIAT PANDA

    £12,285

Depending on the day of the week, this is often James' favourite car. As he says: "I really like simple, small cars. I've owned several Minis and a Citroën Visa, and found myself yearning once more for those prosaic qualities that come with basic motoring."

  • SKODA YETI

    £23,675

Memorably declared "the best car in the world" in series 16, Jeremy says: "I reckon we could do brain surgery in the back of this car - it's so smooth"

  • FORD MONDEO

    £29,445

Another of the very few cars that the presenters actually agree on, and the choice for our daily driver. It's comfortable, sensibly priced (though we've gone for the top spec) and it even looks quite nice.

  • SUBARU LEGACY OUTBACK

    £35,895

This is one of very few cars that the presenters actually agree on. Nice to drive, has real personality, plus an uncanny ability to blend seamlessly into any situation.

  • PORSCHE 911

    £90,024

Both May and Hammond own one. Jeremy doesn't, and probably never will. But democracy wins, so in it goes. Have a gander at Richard and James' own 911s below.

  • MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 63 AMG BLACK EDITION

    £99,517

Jeremy says: "I'm not sure that anyone's life is quite complete unless they have one". And he should know. He's got one.

  • OVERFINCH RANGE ROVER HOLLAND & HOLLAND

For the society events. Jeremy says: "This is where you keep your guns... When you've got your guns what you need is a drinks cabinet."

  • FERRARI 288 GTO

    £400,000

Jeremy says: "It has no competition pedigree, so it's actually a bargain"

  • BUGATTI VEYRON SUPER SPORTS

    £1,600,000

For a matter of minutes, James was the fastest man ever to drive a production car in one of these. "It's unbelievable - look how fast everything's going past.
And it's Mr Captain Slow to you."

  • Ferrari 250 GT SWB CALIFORNIA SPYDER

    £5,900,000

And finally, a car so expensive that nobody from Top Gear has actually driven it. But we will, one day. Every dream garage simply has to contain the Ferrari out of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Just LOOK at it...
