Wallpapers: the best shots of the year

Don’t let your desktop be lonely this Christmas, give it a new supercar wallpaper as a present

  • Lovers of car photography, we bring you gifts. No, not gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but some of our favourite images from the last twelve months in hi-resolution, downloadable wallpapery form.

From helicopter gunships chasing down McLaren P1 GTRs in Austria, to Merc’s 4x4² vs Hennessey Raptor jumping for joy in, er, the Midlands, we’ve pulled together a selection of images from this year’s end of year photo album: Top Gear Portfolio.

It’s a coffee table book collating the best imagery we’ve taken of the best cars, in the best locations planet Earth has to offer.

With over 250,000 images to choose from, it took a bit of work to narrow them down. But we hope you’ll enjoy the results above.

All you have to do to claim your free wallpaper is click the full screen/make-it-big icon in bottom-right of the gallery above, scroll through the picture that takes your fancy and then save the super hi-res image.

If you want more, in papery form, you can pick up the Portfolio exclusively at WHSmith, priced at only £6.99.

  • Lamborghini Aventador SV

    01.07.2015, Southampton, by Mark Fagelson

Given a Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SuperVeloce for 24 hours, what would you do? Just drive and keep driving, like we did.

  • Rolls-Royce Dawn

06.08.2015, Wimbledon, London, by John Wycherley

Tube strikes in London caused traffic carnage across the capital. The car arrived late; the model arrived later. We forgave them both.

  • The Speed Week Cars (And Helicopter)

04.05.2015, Red Bull Ring, Austria, by Richard Pardon

The single most amazing thing we did all year. The buffeting in the Caterham blew the sunglasses off the driver’s face.

  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS

30.06.2015, Llanberis Pass, Wales, by Richard Pardon

There’s a youth hostel at the top of the Llanberis Pass. Everyone spilled out of it to listen to the GT3 RS at sunset on one of the longest days of the year.

  • Porsche Cayman GT4

07.04.2015, Dunsfold, Surrey, by Rowan Horncastle

We really shouldn’t have told The Stig that we had the GT4 down at Dunsfold. He arrived, he started driving, and he didn’t want to stop. Especially not for pictures.

  • Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Turbo, Jaguar F-Type R

03.03.2015, Kvarnt Jarnen, Sweden by Mark Fagelson

Ice. Not grippy. Driving three cars this clost together on a surface this polished could cause issues. Did for Tom Ford, who slipped over the second he stepped out of the GT-R.

  • Ariel Nomad

03.04.2015, Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire by Rowan Horncastle

At the time, the was the only Nomad in existence, and we'd promised to keep it clean. We tried, we really did but Salisbury's mud had other ideas.

  • Corvette Z06

06.10.2015, Road Atlanta, Georgia, USA, by Mark Fagelson

The Vette Z06 is like a mobile computer game. Around the fearsome Road Atlanta track, it’ll pull 1.54g under braking into Turn 10. Best skip breakfast.

  • Avtoros Shaman

20.08.2015, Novozavidovsky, Russia, by Justin Leighton

Donuts, Russian-style: a 4.8-tonne amphibious all-terrain vehicle using its eight-wheel drive and eight-wheel steer to distribute dust far and wide. Out of shot, the company MD is laughing out loud.

  • Porsche 911 by Singer

04.08.2015, Palmdale, CA, USA, by Drew Phillips

Project Chicago (each Singer project is named after the city of its owner) extends its spoiler and bolts for home. The car’s $500k+ pricetag only seems steep until you’ve driven it.
