The new Koleos is the biggest Renault on sale

That isn't a van or truck, anyway. Renault gives new Koleos a Beijing debut

Published: 25 Apr 2016

Koleos is not, despite what its name suggests, a tiny Greek holiday island. It’s actually a generously proportioned SUV cast from the same mould as the Renault Espace and Talisman. We don’t get either of those in the UK, but beginning in the summer of 2017, we will get the Koleos. Yay for us, etc…

Based on the same platform that underpins the Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and other big Renaults, the Koleos promises a degree of actual off-road ability. Renault has even gone to the trouble of quoting attack and departure angles (19 and 26 degrees, if you’re interested). Ground clearance is a respectable 213mm.

Inside and out, the Koleos looks most like a swollen Talisman, which is no bad thing and not surprising, given both cars were designed at the same time and by the same bloke. He's helping Renaults to look sharp at the moment.

And as you’d expect, Renault promises a high-quality interior with all the trappings. We suspect the 8.7-inch portrait touchscreen (seen also in the new Megane) is reserved for expensive trim levels, with the others getting a more conventional, smaller landscape display. Also available is a heated steering wheel, BOSE stereo and the normal suite of driver assistance technology.

Engines? No specific details yet, although Renault says the Koleos will be available with two petrol and two diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 128 to 173bhp. There will also be a choice of manual or CVT automatic transmissions.

Sales start elsewhere in the world as early as this year, but us Brits have to wait until next summer to get our hands on the Koleos. Worth waiting for, internet?
