Artist builds Lightning McQueen from toy cars

Published: 23 Nov 2011

Like Cars 2? Got 100 hours and 5,554 toy cars to spare? Model-maker Jay Sheppard did. And this is the result of his work - a life-size model of Cars 2 star Lightning McQueen, made from toy cars.

Built as a BIG SHOUTY PUBLICITY STUNT for the release of Cars 2 (out now on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD), the sculpture includes 22,216 wheels and 11,108 headlights. It's also 1.5 times the weight of the heaviest car on sale (the Maybach 62, fact enthusiasts), weighing in at 4,165.5kg. That's 6.5 times the weight of your average F1 car. Or 63.2 Lewis Hamiltons (he's in the film, as it goes).
