AeroMotions wing spoiler news - Wing commander - 2008
As we're pretty sure they've said in Dragons' Den a few times (why, incidentally, is that programme so damn addictive? We know it's dull, but we can't stop watching it), the simplest ideas are the best.
So simple, in the case of the AeroMotions rear spoiler, that you'll be metaphorically kicking yourself in the shins in about 10 seconds' time for not having pitched it to that grumpy Scottish bloke and the one with the immaculate facial hair.
It is, as you'll see from the photo-thingy, a rear wing that's split in two. An onboard computer adjusts the angle of the individual wing sections in real-time to give the best downforce and cornering ability without affecting straight line speed.
In other words, when you turn the wheel, the inside flap tilts up to increase downforce on the inside wheel. Straighten up again and the wing flattens off to reduce drag. So simple, so (we presume) effective.
Take a look at a video of the AeroMotion wing in action:
So what do you reckon? Next big thing in F1 or next big thing in the Halfords car park?
