Volkswagen Up GTI - long-term review

As the Up ticks past 9,200 miles, its dashboard informs me now is the time to book its first service. After using the company’s online booking system to nab a slot at West London VW the following week, a man calls to tell me how much it’s going to cost – £175 – and confirm. So far, so painless.

On arrival I’m met by another man, who drops the price by £25, then takes my keys and tells me it’ll be about two hours. So I set up shop and await the call.

It comes just under two hours later – in the form of a text with a link to a detailed online report that tells me many things. It works on a traffic-light system, and the Up is all green. The technician even recorded a little video, walking me through the Up’s underside.
