DS 9 - long term review

Let’s talk storage. I have complained previously about the boot aperture of the DS not being ideal for, you know, actually putting big items in the boot. However, the boot is but one of the many elements for storage solutions in the DS 9. 

It does significantly better in the actual cabin. Yes, there is a plethora of smart storage (not big enough for your holiday luggage, or even your weekend away bag, I admit) all over the DS 9’s interior. Allow me to talk you through a few of my favourites...

1. Underneath the screen, just behind the gearlever, is a compartment which contains the DS 9’s wireless charging pad. I like a wireless charging system (it means I’m never caught short on phone battery – Facetime calls are so battery-hungry and we do those a lot) but there is a small issue with it... sometimes I close the lid on the compartment and forget to bring out my phone. Entirely my fault. Anyway, ever helpful, I have a suggestion – an icon on the screen or instruments that shows if the pad is in use. I’d like that.
2. Just ahead of the hidden charging compartment is my second most favourite bit of storage – the phone slot. When your phone is sufficiently charged you can pop your phone in here making it very easy to keep an eye on it.
3. Not unique to the DS 9, but I do love a door pocket. Ideal for your hand sanitiser and tissues. COVID hasn’t gone away, folks! Stay safe.
4. The DS benefits from a simply HUGE centre storage unit. I have lost entire weeks looking for things I have popped in there to hide them from prying eyes when I’ve parked up on the road in central London. Luckily there is a light in the storage bin, which helps enormously.

You will notice I haven’t included the glovebox in my little list. There is a reason for this omission. I’d like it to be bigger. More and more these days gloveboxes are diminishing in size – I can barely fit my work passes, sunglasses and emergency kit in there.
