Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mk1) review

Interior

What is it like on the inside?

Just an old Golf in here, albeit with a bit of tartan and the mandatory golf-ball gear lever. Spindle-thin pillars mean visibility is superb – as indeed it is in any car of this era – and the boot and rear-seats are pretty spacious for such a tiny car. By modern standards everything feels a bit naff, obviously, and because it’s a decades-old car we’re looking at it will naturally be showing signs of age. But as proper bits are, we’re told, incredibly tricky to find, if you’re bothered about originality make sure everything is present and correct.
