Volkswagen Beetle review
Interior
What is it like on the inside?
Obviously most of the VW Beetle’s interior is parts bin stuff, but given it’s a recent VW bin it’s been rummaging in, that’s not a bad thing. The switchgear’s all very logical and much of it is arranged on an attractive gloss black panel on the lower part of the dashboard. Higher up, you’re greeted with a body-colour section that really brightens up the cabin – if you tend to find German cars too austere and grey inside, here’s your antidote.
This section houses the touchscreen interface familiar from the likes of the Scirocco, Sharan and everything in between. It’s a good system, reacting to your approaching hand by bringing up extra options which then fade into the background when you’re just reading, rather than operating the screen. Meanwhile the dials are clear – if, perhaps, a little soulless for such a cutesy car – but offer easy-access info if none of the pizzazz of the Audi TT’s virtual cockpit.
