GMC Sierra 1500 review
Buying
What should I be paying?
As average as the interior might be, the owning experience for the 2020 Sierra for anyone really wanting a truck to haul and tow – under 10,000lb – will be transformational. First up is GMC’s ProGrade towing system which uses a system of cameras and vehicle tech to make hitching, hauling and unloading almost childishly simple. The system is capable of not only showing you where the truck and trailer are relative to each other at all times, but also letting you monitor the load inside the trailer, too.
The magic continues at the rear of the truck with the optional – but essential – MultiPro tailgate. This multi-segment unit can be lowered as per a normal rear gate, or folded in half to create a step. It can then go to the next level with its optional integrated Kicker sound system with Bluetooth connection. The speakers are marine grade, so designed to deal with all weathers – and beer splashes.
The other headline feature unique to the Sierra is a CarbonPro bed. This is not a spray in liner, it’s a bed made of trick pressed and formed carbon fiber. The company claims it's lighter and more durable than any other bed on the market – and we believe them having tried to destroy one with all manner of hammers. It’s packaged in with a top spec upgrade to the whole truck rather than a standalone option. But if you take your tailgating seriously, this is for you.
