Buying
What should I be paying?
While it’s set to go on sale in mainland Europe very soon, order books for the #5 won’t actually open in the UK until much later this year, with deliveries to customers starting at some point in Q4 2025.
That means official UK prices haven’t actually been confirmed, though Smart UK chief Jason Allbut did tell TG the entry-level Pro trim would likely kick off at around the £40,000 mark. That and the size of the thing would put the #5 up against cars like the Skoda Enyaq and its Volkswagen ID.4 sibling, the Tesla Model Y, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Audi Q4 e-tron and many more besides.
Prices will obviously rise as you step up the range to get the bigger battery and potentially all-wheel drive, but Allbut did tell us the range-topping Brabus will probably cost around £52,000. Rivals for that car are trickier to pin down, but you might cross shop with the Skoda Enyaq vRS (although that’s only 335bhp), the Tesla Model Y in all-wheel drive form, the Nissan Ariya Nismo or the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.
Interestingly, the only real options you’ll be able to spec are the exterior colour, the contrast roof and the tow bar. Smart reckons we’re all time-poor these days so can’t be wasting precious moments ticking boxes on a configurator. Desperately want that passenger screen? You’ll have to go for Premium trim or above. Want the Brabus monoblock wheels? You’ll need to stump up for the full-fat 600bhp+ version, sorry.
Smart’s current warranty on the #1 and #3 is for three years and up to 30,000 miles, so expect that to carry over to the new big brother.
