Buying

What should I be paying?

Prices for the Rivian R1T start at $69,900. Nice, but still pricey for the average truck buyer, and it only goes up from there. That nets you the R1T with its dual motor setup and standard battery pack. Dual motor R1Ts with the Large and Max pack start at $76,900 and $83,900, respectively.

The new tri-motor setup comes in at $99,900, while the quad-motor’s price has yet to be announced. If we were trying to be sensible, we’d opt for the dual motor R1T since it’s not particularly lacking in capability, and we’d pair it with the large battery pack for the extra range.

On the other hand, the tri-motor is a bit FOMO-inducing with its extra power and performance drive modes. $100k is nothing to sniff at though, and the more digits we could shave off that number, the better we’d feel about taking what is effectively a server rack with wheels out to get kicked around by mother nature.

Different trim packages bring with them more cabin appointments like plaid-printed highlights and different accent materials. There are more stealthy or sportier upgrades to go along with them, too, depending on your taste.

The R1T scores the same wheel options as the R1S, fitted with either 20- or 22-inch wheels with all-terrain rubber, an even more rugged 34-inch wheel, and a sport 33-inch set shod in street Pirellis specially designed for the R1 vehicles. There’s also a new aerodynamic wheel offered to further extend the Rivian’s potential range.
