Morgan Plus Six review
Buying
What should I be paying?
This is not a cheap car. Prices start at £77,995 before you’ve been sucked into Morgan’s wealth of bespoke options, while the Launch Edition you see here costs £89,995. That’s getting on for twice the price of the BMW Z4 it’s had a heart transplant from. But then the Z4’s not artfully handcrafted over the course of four weeks in one of the most beguiling workshops in the motoring world. With just 300 of these being made a year, you’ll get plenty of rarity for your outlay, too.
We’re running an identically powered Z4 in the Top Gear garage and it’s averaging 35mpg without effort. We’d expect the same from the Plus Six – perhaps a wee bit less – its massive weight advantage cancelled out by old-school aerodynamics and that hilariously popping and farting exhaust. This is a car far more likely to bring out your mischievous side, too. Expect to visit the long way home frequently.
Still not sold on trading a V8 for a turbo six? In some European markets the newly low CO2 emissions drop the car’s registration tax from as much as 60,000 euros to around 10,000 euros. This is the cleanest Morgan ever, and surely the easiest to justify, too.
