Buying
What should I be paying?
The MG ZS Hybrid+ range is all nice and simple – you’ve just got the one engine setup and two trim levels to choose from. The entry-level SE comes in at £21,995 and the top-spec (because something has to be) Trophy is a smidge higher at £24,495.
It’s already a competitive car with most of its rivals, priced around the same level as their entry petrols, but cheaper than everyone when you compare like for like on a hybrid powertrain (which the Skoda Kamiq doesn’t even offer).
So what do you get?
The ZS comes fairly well equipped: you’ve got LED lights front and rear as standard, 17in alloys, adaptive cruise control, the 12.3in touchscreen infotainment with Apple/Android connectivity and satnav, digital instrument panel, rear parking sensors with camera, auto lights and wipers and keyless go.
Trophy spec adds 18in wheels, ‘leather style’ upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a 360-degree parking camera.
There aren’t too many options to choose from after that – the ZS comes in white as standard, then you’re looking at £545 to upgrade to metallic shades of black, silver, grey or blue and £695 for the (admittedly fetching) ‘tri-coat’ red.
Anything else to seal the deal?
The ZS comes with a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty from MG, which is pretty useful. If you went for the Trophy spec car on MG’s PCP deal over three years/30,000 miles, you’d be looking at around £375 a month with a £2,500 deposit down. We've seen a lot worse.
