MG Motor UK 5 EV review

Here’s where the simple range stacks up, because it’s pretty simple, really. The SE is £30,995 and gets V2L, LEDs all round, roof rails, parking sensors, 16s, the MG iSmart app that allows for remote functions like checking status, initiating charging, messing with the climate control and doing stuff like finding a local charge point - stuff the MG5 didn’t have before. There’s MG Pilot, which is just an aggregation of advanced driver assistance systems like emergency braking, lane-keep assist, some other assist and adaptive cruise. They all get the big central screen and apple Carplay/android auto. Though the SE gets fabric seats. All the paint options are £545 unless it’s fridge white, or red, which is £695.

The Trophy jumps to £33,495 and adds heated front seats, a 360-degree parking camera, 17s, privacy glass, auto air con and a few other bits. Finance offers are still being decided, but they’ll be a bit more than the outgoing model. MG currently offers 4 year PCP (personal contract purchase) for £299 on the SE and £319 on the Trophy per month, but that’s with a hefty 8.5-9 grand deposit and 14 to 15-and-a-bit grand final payment with a representative APR of 7.9-per cent. There’ll be better deals out there if you do some research.

There’s also a seven-year warranty - matching the likes of Kia and Hyundai  - though not quite as good as Toyota’s decade-long ticket - that moves with ownership, so residuals are likely to be decent. And as we all know, decent residuals make for cheap (er) finance.
