Buying

What should I be paying?

One of the fortunate 500? You’ll already know that the £750k asking price is only the start and that once you’ve got the bespoke livery and cabin you want via McLaren’s MSO department, the price will have risen significantly. You won’t care for two reasons. One, you’re wealthy enough that it’s not a consideration. Two, McLaren’s star has risen so far and so fast from the first 12C that used values are unlikely to dip. This is important - values depend not only on limited supply, but on how the car is perceived, and the reputation of its manufacturer.

Other numbers you might find useful to know but will be of limited interest to owners: 280g/km and 22.8mpg. That’s on the new WLTP cycle, and a testament to the McLaren’s lightweight and aero efficiencies. That should make for a reasonable touring range, although touring a Senna is maybe not quite what it was designed for. If you do decide that’s how you want to use your Senna, may we suggest not deleting the air conditioning? And maybe going for the wider Touring seats? And possibly having another car tagging along for the luggage? The Senna has no load bay whatsoever.

But the thought of cruising along, while light floods through the glass roof panels and you can look out at the road through the clear lower door panels is pretty compelling. You get the feeling that owners might end up using the Senna more than they first think.
