What is it like to drive?
… Isn’t really the point. And that’s not the usual road-testing sneer over very fast, extrovert cabrios – even Lamborghini itself says the Huracan Spyder is a lifestyle car, aimed at customers who wouldn’t even consider the 120kg lighter, 0.4sec faster to 62mph coupe, let alone a Ferrari or McLaren. Think of the Spyder more as a pedestal for the glorious 5.2-litre V10. You, your passenger and everyone else in a five-mile radius are an appreciation society for the baleful snarl of an engine that properly takes Ferrari and McLaren’s trousers down for sheer exhaust theatre.
If you’re really concerned with the last word in driving minutiae, take note that the weight penalty has taken the edge off the accelerative rush, the gearbox is a peach, the ride is too brittle in Corsa mode, and the optional Dynamic Steering still feels rubbery. Apparently customers adore it, with around 90 per cent of buyers choosing to spec the variable ratio system for better in-town manoeuvrability. Just the place to deploy over 600bhp...
