Jensen Interceptor review
Buying
What should I be paying?
If you’re anything like us, you could see yourself having a Jensen Interceptor as part of your dream collection… but the trouble is there would probably be a great number of cars ahead of it in the queue. Which means that in practice, not many people have the means or desire to buy one. Or run it.
As we said in the Overview, prices vary massively and you do need to know exactly what you are getting yourself into. They can be an utter money pit, heavily prone to rusting in both body and chassis, very hard to track down parts for, and God knows what you do if that rear glass gets broken. Nor are there many specialists around these days.
If you want full peace of mind it is available in the shape of the Jensen International Automotive cars, and there’s a range to choose from. The £390k Interceptor R is the pinnacle (the cost includes donor vehicle & VAT), but for £315,000 you could have a non-supercharged car, or if you have an Interceptor already for £130k JIA can carry out a mechanical conversion (engine, rear axle, AP brakes etc).
Even by the standards of restomods their Interceptor is very expensive, and unlikely to retain its value. However, the sort of people who commission them are not the sort of people who are likely to care much about that, as they’ll have bought it because they love it, and will probably never dream of selling it.
