Buying
What should I be paying?
Prices start at £48,720 for the D200, £52,560 for the P250, and £64,490 for P400e (that’s the plug-in hybrid), all in entry-level R-Dynamic S trim.
Splitting those three are the D300, which starts from £60,420 in SE Black trim, and the P400, which starts from £69,425 and is solely available in range-topping 400 Sport trim. More on the difference between those trims in a bit.
It’s keenly priced compared to rivals too, with the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 all starting around the same ballpark, while the Mercedes GLC and Porsche Macan ask around £5k more.
Stick £5,000 down and you're looking at monthly repayments of around £615 for the D200, £650 for the P250 and £800 for the P400e over three years with a 10,000 yearly mileage limit, through Jaguar’s own finance scheme.
Back to the difference between kits, please...
The trim range seems to be ever-changing, but at time of writing comprises the R-Dynamic S, SE Black and HSE Black, along with the range-topping 400 Sport.
R-Dynamic S model highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED highlights with signature daytime running lights, digital dials, 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system, and 12-way heated electric front seats.
SE Black models get 20-inch alloy wheels, black exterior pack, configurable cabin lighting, fixed panoramic roof and Meridian sound system, while HSE Black models get 21-inch alloy wheels, 16-way heated and ventilated Windsor leather sports electric front seats with massage and memory function, suede headlining, illuminated metal treadplates, driver assist pack and adaptive suspension.
Range-topping 400 Sport models get 22-inch alloy wheels, DuoLeather sports seats and Morzine headlining but is otherwise very similar to the HSE Black, its biggest appeal being it’s the only trim level offered with the 395bhp 3.0-litre 6cyl engine.
What's the best spec?
We reckon the temptingly priced P250 is the pick of the bunch here, particularly if you’re mostly going to be sticking to short journeys. We’re still not sure what manufacturers’ obsession is with black packs either: we’d stick to base spec R-Dynamic S trim which comes impressively equipped as standard and looks the freshest to our eyes. Spend leftover cash on any extras that take your fancy.
If you’re regularly going to be taking on longer journeys the D300 looks an assured bet but forces you to step up to SE Black trim, bringing with it a hefty hike in price.
