GMC Hummer EV review

With all the Edition 1s being spoken for, there are three options open to potential buyers.

The EV3X has an MSRP of $99,995. It has an 830bhp three-motor drivetrain and a 300-mile range. It lacks some of the detailing of the Edition 1, but is the closest to it. The EV2X is priced at $89,995. It has a two-motor 625bhp drivetrain with, again, around 300 miles of range.

And last of all, for now, there is the EV2 costing $79,995. This has the same two-motor drivetrain as in the 2X but lacks the air suspension, 800-volt fast charging, Crabwalk and four-wheel steering.

Pricing for the two-row SUV version (there is no three-row) of the HEV starts at an identical $79,995 for the EV2 version. The EV2X and 3X variants cost the same for both SUV and pick up models, with the Edition 1 costing $105,595 - $5k less than the open-bed range-topper.

Other than the obvious bodyshell difference, the SUV variant offers several unique features. The rear swing door is power-assisted, which sounds sensible as the spare wheel is attached to it. The rear glass can be dropped or raised remotely. And there is model-specific Moonshot Green as an option.

As capable as the pick-up HEV is off road, the SUV should beat it comfortably. With a nine-inch shorter wheelbase and better entry and exit angles, plus an even tighter 35.4ft turning circle it will be the mountain goat of the range. Especially when it’s optioned with the Extreme Off-Road Package, the SUV Edition 1’s only option.
