Buying
What should I be paying?
Prices for the 4 Series Convertible start at around £46,000, which is around £5,000 more than the hard-top. The entry-level engine is the 182bhp 420i. We’ve tested the M440i, which is yours from £59,670.
As an M Sport Pro model it benefits from bigger wheels and bronze highlights not present on the standard M Sport model. There’s no basic ‘SE’ trim for the UK, because Brits love a body kit.
The Mercedes C-class Cabriolet and Audi A5 Cabriolet are similarly priced but both considerably older than the brand-new 4er: the Audi’s into its facelift phase and the Merc will be replaced any day now. So in terms of rivals, while you might be able to negotiate a deal on the Audi or Mercedes, it won’t be the current model for much longer.
In terms of options, we recommend the £1,350 Comfort Pack, which adds keyless access, a heated steering wheel and the manually erectable wind deflector. It’s also sold separately for £350. The Tech Pack’s Harmon/Kardon hi-fi and head-up display are extremely tempting as well, if not exactly vital.
