Is this Yamaha Chappy the coolest thing you’ve ever seen?

Gulf-liveried paddock bike is up for auction this weekend

Published: 21 Feb 2019

We love weird and wonderful motoring-related goodness here at Top Gear Towers – and when it’s this cool it should be seen as some sort of public service to share with the wider Internetverse.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a Gulf-liveried Yamaha Chappy that has been customised for paddock use at race tracks and given its own mini trailer to pull. Need we say any more?

Well, considering you now almost definitely want to buy it, here’s some extra info…

The 50cc trail bike was taken apart and rebuilt for purpose by a race team in the US (who also added the iconic paint job), and it’s now going up for auction at the Race Retro sale on Saturday. The estimate? Just £500 - £600.

The 1970s bike itself would be cool enough on its own, but rocking about behind the scenes at a heritage race meet with that tyre trailer on the back is stuff that dreams are made of.

It’s also only done 635 miles from new – so should bring joy for years to come.

Buy it! But also don’t because we want it.
