What you need to know about the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered
With high performance at its heart, this punchy new plug-in hybrid is bursting with impressive features
Available as a Fastback or SW, the powerful new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered is a four-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid combining internal combustion with electrical energy for high-performance, low-emissions motoring. It’s the first creation to come from Peugeot Sport Engineered, Peugeot’s new high-performance division, and is inspired by Peugeot Sport’s illustrious motorsport history.
Read on to find out how all this comes together in the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered...

ON THE ROAD
The new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered packs in more performance than any Peugeot before it. A 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine combines with two electric motors – one for each axle – for a total of 360hp. That power reaches the road via an eight-speed, all-wheel-drive transmission – ensuring plenty of traction come rain or shine.
Sometimes stats only tell half the story, but even on paper the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered stacks up against some serious competition, reaching 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds on the way to a top speed of 155mph (electronically limited). Even more impressive is the 50-74mph time of just 3.0 seconds – demonstrating the quick reactions and instant torque of those two electric motors.
HIGH PERFORMANCE, LOW EMISSIONS
Best of all, this blend of speed and science means that while performance is high, emissions are kept low: the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered produces just 46g/km of CO2 – the equivalent of 139mpg, according to the WLTP test.
The plug-in hybrid technology makes itself useful from the moment you start the car. On start-up the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered defaults into 100% Electric Mode, giving you up to 26 miles of emission-free driving on a full charge at speeds of up to 80mph, meaning all-electric motorway driving is an everyday reality.
IN THE MODE
Electric Mode is just one of five driving modes, each of which is designed to give you a different experience and to make the most of the powertrain’s repertoire.
4WD Mode shares the power between all four wheels, giving you peace of mind on slippery surfaces – or just helping to maximise traction in the dry. Hybrid Mode automatically alternates between electric and combustion power to optimise the use of energy – and fuel efficiency – depending on the circumstances. Comfort Mode works like Hybrid Mode, but also softens the suspension for a more relaxed ride.
Finally, there’s Sport Mode, which delivers the full 360hp, using both electric and combustion power for instant responses – the engine ensures that the battery is charged for maximum performance at all times. Sport Mode also unlocks the digital engine sound system, amplifying the sound of the powertrain to intensify the on-board sensation.
A FINE-TUNED SETUP
Sport Mode also tunes the steering, active suspension and accelerator pedal mapping – all of which have been fine-tuned by Peugeot Sport engineers.
The suspension sits 4mm lower than a standard 508, as well as being up to 50 per cent stiffer. The tracks are wider (up 24mm at the front, 12mm rear), while stopping power comes from 380mm Alcon brakes – you can see them behind the 20-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

FAST CHARGING
While the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered’s battery can be recharged on the move, maximum efficiency is achieved by plugging it in. A full charge takes just 1 hour 45 minutes from a 7.4kW home wallbox (with optional 7.4kWh on board charger), or under seven hours from a standard domestic, three-pin socket (optional cable required). A home wallbox charge point is available via PodPoint – Peugeot’s chosen partner.

DISTINCTIVE DESIGN
From the acid-green slashes – known as ‘kryptonite claws’ – of the Peugeot Sport Engineered badging, to the black exhaust outlets and gloss black rear diffuser, the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered has unmistakable styling, all influenced and shaped by aerodynamics.
The kryptonite colouring helps to frame the bold front end and air intakes, while also helping the front brake calipers to stand out behind the two-tone, diamond-cut alloys. And there’s a choice of three body colours: Selenium Grey, Nera Black and Pearl White.

ON THE INSIDE
Open the door and jump forward in time with Peugeot’s sci-fi inspired i-Cockpit®. Behind the compact steering wheel are digital 3D displays and graphic animations projected via a large, 12.3-inch head-up-display panel for a holographic effect. In addition, there’s a central, capacitive 10-inch touchscreen display.
You’ll sit in wraparound seats upholstered with a mix of Mistral Nappa Leather and Alcantara©, featuring heat and massage functions as standard for the driver’s seat, while a powerful, crystal-clear FOCAL® Hi-Fi audio system adds to the on-board experience.
FIVE-STAR SAFETY
On top of its sure-footed four-wheel-drive system, the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered comes as standard with every available driving aid from the 508 range, including Night Vision, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning System and Automatic Emergency Braking. Think of them as a helping hand, or an extra pair of eyes, giving you a little more peace of mind on every journey – long or short.
