Yeah, you should definitely buy this fully-restored Amphicar

Ever built a swimming pool to help sell your car? This Amphicar’s current owner has gone to great lengths

Published: 12 Oct 2021

If you want a car that’ll stand out from the crowd, you don’t need a mind-bendingly quick modern supercar or an ultra-luxurious limo. Everyone’s got one of them. Oh no, what you really want is one of these – a 1960s Amphicar Model 770.

Yep, as you might have guessed from the images above of it sitting in a swimming pool, this is half car/half boat. Super cute too, isn’t it?

Less than 4,000 Amphicars were built in Germany back in the 1960s, so it’s a rare beast. This particular example is actually up for sale via Car & Classic, with bidding at the time of writing up to £36,000. Expect that to skyrocket though, because the current owner has just spent over £83,000 restoring this little piece of amphibious history.

It’s just wonderful, with the Triumph Herald-sourced four-cylinder engine now making around 45bhp (and able to run on E10 petrol). Almost every single component has been given the once-over since this car came over from America at the end of 2017, and it now has a full MOT and the boating equivalent, so you can legally use it on the UK’s highways and waterways.

How much should it sell for, folks?
