This Peel P50 just sold for £111,000 at auction
Good grief. Teeny little car sells for absolutely massive money
Yep, it’s TG’s old friend the Peel P50, only now it seems the rest of the world has cottoned on to its dinky charms, because the one you see above has just sold at auction for a frankly ridiculous £111,000.
That’s right, it’s a 1.3m long, 59kg microcar for the price of a new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. Bonkers, but still brilliant.
One of just 46 Peel P50s ever made, the seller on Car & Classic reckoned this may be the earliest in existence. It’s actually a 1963 pre-production example with a lower windscreen, early Lucas sidelights, a cream steering wheel and no rear roll bar. Slightly worrying.
Not that the new owner will be able to pick up enough speed to care about that kind of thing. The P50’s single-cylinder 49cc engine and three forward gears make for a top whack of 38mph. There’s also no onboard instruments and – as you’ll well know – no reverse gear.
Remarkably, this is only the second most expensive P50 ever sold, with one fetching £120k at auction back in 2016.
