Mitsubishi has gone full weird with its Delica display at the Tokyo Auto Salon

Massive mascot on a Delica Mini leads a bunch of custom off-roaders and campers

Late last year Mitsubishi announced that it would make a triumphant return to the UK market in the summer of 2026, and we sincerely hope it brings some of this weirdness with it.

This is Mitsubishi’s lineup of cars for the Tokyo Auto Salon, and it’s led by a Delica Mini christened the ‘Delimaru Festa’ and adorned with a giant ‘Delimaru’, which it turns out is Mitsubishi’s own official mascot for the Delica Mini. Yep, we see the family resemblance now.

Apparently, the whole theme of Mitsubishi’s stand at the show is ‘Delica Festival - Unleash Your Playful Spirit’. Sounds excellent to us, and essentially means it’s full of custom Delica Mini kei cars and full-size 4x4 Delica D:5s.

After the Delimaru Festa in our gallery up above are the D:5 Ultimate Gear and the Mini Ultimate Gear, which have both been lifted and fitted with rugged off-road bumpers. Then you’ve got the D:5 Active Camper with its chunky tyres and roof-mounted awning, plus a Mini Active Camper with a lift kit, giant light bar and pop-up roof tent. Can we have one for our next road trip please, Mitsubishi?

Next up is a collaboration with retro-loving Japanese tuner DAMD, with a Delica Mini paying homage to a Pajero through its front grille and lights. There’s also an old-school roof rack and excellent silver steel wheels. The final pairing are the ‘Wild Adventure Style’ editions of each Delica, and we’re told that these incorporate genuine Mitsubishi Motors accessories like roof racks and mud flaps.

Maybe we just need the Delicas to come to the UK and Mitsubishi will be cool again?
