Honda's amazing 'flickbook' advert is the best thing you'll watch today
King of the car ads does it again, this time with mere paper and pens
Honda has done it again. The Japanese carmaker has forged itself a bit of a reputation for creating adverts that capture the imagination. More so than many of its current cars, some might argue.
And Honda's latest, quite brilliant effort is ‘Paper’. The clue really is in the name, too, the entire advert created with the stuff. The sequence was planned via CGI, but the end product shuns computer generation and was done entirely by hand, with stop-motion experts PES behind it.
Like the best of Honda’s ads, it portrays the diversity of the brand, from cars to bikes to planes, with robots, boats and world-record-breaking lawnmowers in between.
Highlights include an SUV being attacked by an octopus, the current McLaren-Honda F1 car morphing into a ride-on mower (keep your jokes about an improvement in pace to yourself) and some sweetly drawn retro cars, including a lovely old CRX.
The big finale is saved for the new NSX, with a nice little preview of how it will sound, too. And if you’re the sort of person who watches all the behind-the-scenes stuff from your favourite films, you can find out how it was made here.
