Volkswagen Tiguan news - VW Volkswagen Tiguan news - Back from Africa

Published: 29 Jun 2007

A few weeks back we saw the VW Tiguan testing in the Namibian desert, but the little SUV is back from finding itself in deepest Africa and ready to enter the big grown-up world of work.

Yes, the Golf-based Tiguan has been dusted off and polished off, and now VW has let us see it in full production guise.

So what we've got is basically a shrunk-in-the-wash Touareg that's so pleasantly inoffensive it won't even upset the Greens.

Neither will the engine options: the Tiguan will initially come to the UK with a 138bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel or a 148bhp 1.4-litre petrol, although two more petrol engines and a 167bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel will follow later in 2008.

There will be three trim options, mimicking the Golf, covered by S, SE and Sport, and all come with 4Motion four-wheel drive.

With prices expected to start around £19,000, the first Tiguans should be on the way in November, when you'll be free to head back to wildest Namibia for some mad off-roading. Or just to tackle the Tesco speedbumps. Your choice.
