Watch: Robbie Maddison rides a dirtbike across water

Is this one of the finest videos to grace the Internet? Watch as Maddo SURFS his dirtbike on the Tahiti waves

Published: 03 Aug 2015

Well, this is certainly one way to kickstart the week. Ladies and gentlemen, may we humbly present a video of a man surfing a dirtbike across water. Yes, that sentence actually happened.

The man in question SURFING, don't forget, on aforementioned modified dirt bike is Robbie Maddison, he of much manliness and little regard for self-preservation. Or physics, so it seems.

Supposedly three years in the making, ‘Pipe Dream’ is a four-minute epic, which you absolutely must watch immediately. Shot in Tahiti, ‘Maddo’ – who doubled for Daniel Craig in Skyfall – rides first through what looks like a tropical rainforest, before bursting out through the trees and into the ocean, where he tackles waves we'd think twice before confronting in a boat. The whole thing is certifiable and therefore excellent.

Maddison told Surfer Magazine: "I don’t think the photos or video show how physical it was. You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life. I’ve never felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I did right there. It was a near-death experience." Sounds about right.

Robbie, Top Gear salutes you.
