Watch this Porsche 911 GT2 RS set a lap record at Road Atlanta

Marvel at the onboard footage of yet another fastest production car lap for the GT2 RS

Published: 28 Mar 2019

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is a mightily quick car. Because of that, and presumably because they’re quite proud of it, Porsche often likes to remind us just how quickly it can go.

So, back in 2017 it set a production car record at the Nürburgring with a lap time of 6m 47.3s – which has since been beaten by Lamborghini’s Aventador SVJ.

Then last year, the Germans took their GT2 RS to both Laguna Seca and Willow Springs, where American Randy Pobst proceeded to break both road-legal records. Just greedy if you ask us.

Well, that clearly wasn’t enough for Porsche. Because it has now stolen the fastest time for a production car at Road Atlanta, completing the 2.54-mile road course in just 1m 24.9s. Blimey.

Thankfully the engineers weren’t too stingy with weight saving to ditch the onboard camera either, so you can watch the lap in full above and listen to that twin-turbo, 3.8-litre engine live on the edge as it was built to do.

Remember while you’re watching too that this car can potter down the high-street in that exact spec - even the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres are completely road-legal. That’s 690bhp going through the rear wheels and somehow not coming unstuck.

Why all the record attempts? Well, if you've built a car this quick why not show the world?
