There’s only one winner when a very pointy, very orange racing car goes against two birds

Published: 04 May 2017

Yesterday, two-time Formula 1 world champ Fernando Alonso had his first go in an IndyCar. With over two million people watching online, it was a day not to mess up by turning right out of the pit lane.

Over the course of 110 laps, ‘Nando built up speed, remembered to turn left (important), adjusted well to the new aerodynamics, power and fact that walls don’t become any less malleable at 200-odd miles an hour. That didn’t stop people trying to ruin his big first day behind the wheel for the McLaren-Honda-Andretti race car. And by people, we mean BIRDS.

So if you’re squeamish, look away now.
