Video: rallying’s craziest moments from last year

Get pumped for the upcoming WRC season with the best bits of 2016

Published: 04 Jan 2017

Think you know what commitment is? Well, take a look at the video above and think again.

It’s a highlight reel of amateur footage from last year’s WRC rally season that will leave you slightly stunned. See, aside from the normal official footage you see from rallies, there’s a nomadic pack of bobble hatists who traipse around the globe following dust trails and the sound of anti-lag to get their rallying fix. Unlike the official broadcasters, they’re deranged – hunting out the places where cars are most likely to do the biggest jumps, drifts, or… have the biggest crashes.

We don’t condone these actions as it’s frightfully dangerous. However, seeing the likes of Sébastien Ogier, Kris Meeke, Hayden Paddon and Jari-Matti Latvala trying their best to orbit into space while coming over crests looking out the side window, then burying the throttle and praying the four-wheel-drive system and chunky tyres can do their thing to stop the furiously expensive rally beasts become a spinning tombola of debris is captivating to watch.

How more cameras weren’t smashed to smithereens while making this video, we don’t know. But click play and prepare to be amazed. And remember, don’t try this at home.
