Video: listen to Ford's deafening new GT racer on track

Footage of Ford’s 2016 Le Mans car put through its paces in Canada. Sounds… brutal

Published: 30 Jul 2015

Here is a video of some noise. Specifically, noise from the recently announced Ford GT racing car set to compete at Le Mans next year

As your ears will quickly ascertain, this is no gentle, relaxing noise, suitable for accompanying crochet, meditation or the like. This is raw, brutal noise.

It's noise that's good news for endurance racing fans too, as next year Ford will return to Le Mans with a track-spec version of its new GT car. Significant, because next year will mark 50 years since the original GT car completed a 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans.

Unlike the original GT racer though, Ford’s 2016 contender won’t compete in the top LMP1 category frequented by Audi, Porsche and the like, but rather the GTE Pro class for production-based racers.

And the noise? Well, that’s courtesy of a Roush Yates-developed 3.5-litre turbocharged, EcoBoost V6 with many horsepowers. It’s even got side-exit exhausts, too, which – as Aston Martin’s Vulcan will attest – are quite excellent.

Big wing? Check. Monster motor? Check. Excellent noise? Check. Roll on 2016.
