Take an epic drive… without leaving your keyboard
If you haven't noticed, we quite like epic drives here at Top Gear. We've driven three supercars across Italy, coast to coast across the US in a hot Ford, done a whole lap of England, and taken bangers across Botswana.
All these took a lot of planning, a fair bit of getting lost and lots of beef jerky and caffeinated drinks to keep us going. But now you, the internet, can go on an epic drives without having to leave your keyboard or putting your trousers on.
Thanks to a group of nerdsmiths at digital agency Teehan+Lax, they've managed to hack Google Street View so you can make a ‘hyperlapse'. Hyperlapse is a technique of combining timelapse photography and sweeping camera movements typically focused on a point of interest into one big film. What this means if you're not fluent in nerdspeak, is that you can stich all the photos from Google's popular ‘does-anyone-on my-street-have-a-hidden-swimming-pool?' service commonly known as ‘Street View' into one long journey.
You can click here to select two points you know and go on an epic drive, or click the video below to go on someone else's.
If you do know of an awesome road, share them with the TopGear.commentariat by leaving them in the comments below...
