The Rodin FZero is seven seconds faster around Albert Park than the RB20 F1 car*

*In simulations, mind. Get up close with this V10-engined, 1,500bhp track toy

“On the version 2 car, we’ve run through simulation software that we use at the race team in the UK,” Rodin Cars founder and boss David Dicker tells TopGear.com. “And with 1,500bhp and the same weight as a current F1 car, it shows the car seven seconds a lap quicker around Albert Park than an RB20.”

Got your attention yet? The ‘car’ in question shouldn’t really be classified as a car, because it’s got more in common with low-level spacecraft. Rodin’s FZero packs a V10, a pair of turbochargers, aerodynamic witchcraft for unfathomable levels of downforce and a single seat with which to enjoy it all.

About that weight. The team is targeting 698kg without a driver, making it comfortable lighter than today’s F1 guys. But Dicker acknowledges all these comparisons probably aren’t fair.

“It’s unfair on the F1 guys,” he says, “because obviously they’re all running around with their hands tied behind their back. But that’s just the reality of the situation. We just want to show that other things are possible.”

Want to see what ‘possible’ looks like? Top Gear’s Ollie Marriage chats to Dicker for a closer look at this track-honed monster…
