A man has set a Nürburgring lap record...on two wheels
Han Yue sets what must be slowest ever Nurburgring lap record
Record-breaking Nurburgring laps are usually pretty full-on. This one, erm, isn’t. The record-holder in question is a man called Han Yue, and the record? The fastest laptime set around the full, 12.9 mile Nordschleife in a car – on just two wheels.
Mr Yue’s attempt, which was streamed live to thousands on Facebook, took 45 minutes at an average speed of about 17mph. And Yue says he could have gone faster, had there not been a “very strong vibration” from one of the back tyres. Bridge to Gantry reports Yue, who’s no stranger to the setting of world records, was “sweating and visibly in pain” for most of the run, and that his shoulder had already started to hurt less than four miles in.
The Mini Cooper S he used to set the record wasn’t entirely standard, either. It had a welded front-diff and solid-rubber front tyre to go along with the roll cage. If you have, ahem, 45 minutes to spare, give it a watch above.
