The Vauxhall Mokka has scooped Top Gear magazine's Design of the Year award
The all-new Mokka and Mokka-e are the handsome new faces of Vauxhall
It’s official, the all-new Vauxhall Mokka and its all-electric counterpart the Mokka-e have picked up Top Gear magazine's 2021 Design of the Year award, with the bold new Vizor front end and sophisticated interior helping it beat off competition from all sides of the automotive industry.
“The Mokka-e might just be 2021’s most satisfying looking new car in a field that includes a bunch of supercars and fresh work from some heavy hitters,” said Top Gear magazine upon crowning the Mokka.
Vauxhall-Opel Vice President Design Mark Adams also said: “This car is the catalyst. This is what we can do now that we’ve got our act together. I’m not just talking about design, I mean as a company and brand. There’s more focus on consistency and on doing great things. It’s no longer about being competitive. Being ‘competitive’ is almost a negative because there’s now a winning mentality. A car like the Mokka isn’t the work of a team that was feeling shy.”
But what is it exactly that gives the all-new Mokka and all-electric Mokka-e its award-winning look and feel? Read on below to find out…
Signature Vauxhall Vizor
The revolutionary front grille of the all-new Mokka is known as the Vauxhall Vizor. This futuristic look integrates the modern and effective hockey stick-style LED headlights (standard fit on all Mokkas) with the new Vauxhall badge, and gives this compact crossover real road presence. In fact, the Mokka is the first in a new generation of stylish Vauxhalls, and the Vizor is set to be the future face of the company.
“Boldness can polarise opinion so that 10 per cent of the customers love it but 90 per cent hate it. That’s not a success story, is it? The challenge is to achieve boldness with really wide appeal,” Adams told Top Gear magazine.
Sporting touches
There are sporting touches throughout the design of the all-new Mokka, from the contrast-colour floating roof to the purposeful stance and rear spoiler. It looks ready for action even when standing still.
This sporting intent is particularly evident in SRi trim, which pairs stylish 18-inch bi-colour alloy wheels with unique red accents on the window trims and throughout the interior.
Perfect proportions
The versatile all-new Mokka is the perfect family car. With spacious rear seats and up to 350-litres of boot space there’s room for all, and the standard Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™ connectivity means you’ll never be lacking for entertainment.
Premium interior
The all-new Mokka didn’t just pick up Top Gear’s Design of the Year award for its fresh and innovative exterior style, though. The premium interior with Vauxhall’s new Pure Panel steals the show once you step inside.
The Pure Panel seamlessly combines a 10- or 12-inch digital instrument cluster with either a 7- or 10-inch infotainment screen depending on spec. The central touchscreen is angled towards the driver and incorporates a navigation system, multimedia and full phone connectivity, and you’ll find a neat electronic handbrake in the centre console.
Good design also means creating something that’s usable, and so the all-new Mokka retains practical physical buttons for the climate control and some media functions, meaning you never have to take your eyes off the road.
All-electric drive
The new second generation all-new Mokka is all about choice, and with the new all-electric Mokka-e you can now choose a fully-electric powertrain that brings 260Nm of instant torque and up to 209 miles of range with zero emissions. This is a futuristic powertrain to match the Mokka’s innovative, award-winning design.
