You could own this one-of-50, 825bhp Porsche 959 SC by Canepa Motorsport

... provided you're happy to wire £2.8 million to RM Sotheby’s

Published: 13 Feb 2025

Everyone knows the 959’s story: built to compete in the wild Group B series, went toe-to-toe with the Ferrari F40 and sent Porsche’s finance department into a meltdown because the company lost around 50 per cent on each one that left the factory.

Quite the story, and befitting of a car which sells for £1.5 million these days. But throw another million or so on top and you could nab yourself an even wilder spin-off built by Cali-based Porsche specialists, Canepa Motorsports.

Dubbed the 959 ‘SC’, this example currently for sale at RM Sotheby’s may look like a normal 959, what with its perfectly circular headlamps, iconic taillight bar and looping rear wing, but there are several big changes beneath the familiar face.

The 2.8-litre flat-six gets new forged pistons, a revised intake system, ceramic-coated headers and, most exciting of all, a fresh pair of BorgWarner turbos. The result is an eighty-six per cent power increase to 825bhp.

Canepa has also upgraded the adjustable suspension with valved shocks and titanium springs from Penske. Combined with the still brilliant four-wheel drive system and lightweight body constructed using Kevlar and aluminium, this thing ought to be quick enough to see off any 'regular' 959s. Now you just need the small matter of £2.8 million.
