These sub-£10k convertibles from the 2010s should be on your summer wish list

Depreciation is a used car buyer’s best friend, so here are 10 options that have reached temptingly low prices

Audi RS5
  • Nissan 370Z

    Nissan 370Z

This 117k-mile Nissan 370Z should still work and run like it's just left the factory. Beneath the bonnet sits a 3.7-litre six-cylinder, sending a massive 328bhp to the rear wheels and slapping a huge grin on your face whenever you go near the throttle. Not bad for £6.5k.

  • Jaguar XK

    Jaguar XK

And not just any XK for that matter: it’s got the snarly, full-fat 5.0-litre V8. This gorgeous 2011 example is finished in white and has around 86,000 miles to its name. It’s listed for around nine grand, which surely will go up by the time the auction concludes. But we’d keep an eye on it… you never know.

  • Mini Convertible

    Mini Convertible

A Mini Convertible in a triple layer of black paint, just over 30,000 on the odometer and a full lesson on how to be a back road riot from John Cooper Works. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Such a thing can be found here and presents a marvellous opportunity to own a car that really can do it all.

  • Audi TT

    Audi TT

The market isn’t short on Audi's second-generation TTs, but few are quite as in-yer-face as this one. Externally, it’s been given a new rear wing and 19in Zito alloys, while the cabin receives an upgraded infotainment and audio system. Yours now for just over eight large.

  • Infiniti G

    Infiniti G

How’s this for a curveball? It’s a 2010 Infiniti G, which blends a classy froth with a slightly detuned version of the 370Z’s V6. Those who prefer physical buttons over touchscreens will love the litany of buttons available, from phone access to voice command - both of which you’ll likely never use, but claim to.

  • Mercedes-Benz SL

    Mercedes-Benz SL

This one only just manages to qualify, since the facelifted fifth-generation SL300 was quite dated by the time it was retired in 2011. But while most of the cabin’s functions will be fairly useless 90 per cent of the time, it won’t matter much when you step outside and look at it. Can someone play Breathe by Blu Cantrell and Sean Paul already?

  • BMW Z4

    BMW Z4

Anyone for a 201bhp inline-six that’s accessed through a traditional six-speed manual? Look no further, because this silver-alloyed, black-bodied Z4 Roadster is a study on just how a car should be maintained. Given that they’ve aged enough to hold a steady value these days, there’s very little risk involved too. What are you waiting for?

  • Volkswagen Golf R

    Volkswagen Golf R

We cater for all audiences here at Top Gear, including Britain’s next generation of yobos and hooligans. As such, a chop-top sixth-generation Golf R fits the bill for those who’d like to disturb the tranquillity of Britain’s countryside by popping and banging their way across.

  • Fiat 124 Spider

    Fiat 124 Spider

Right before we present you with a very wild wildcard, we thought we’d offer you one more safe bet in the Fiat 124 Spider. It’s unlikely you’ll land a sought-after Abarth trim within this week’s budget, but the standard car is still a barrel of laughs with its 138bhp four-pot. What could possibly go wrong with owning a characterful Italian convertible?

  • Wildcard: Audi RS5

    Audi RS5

Before you get too excited, this RS5 will need a total engine rebuild before it ever moves under its own steam again. Though if you do have the time (and money) to spare, and given it has just 52,000 on the clock, this could turn into one hell of a bargain. Or, if you can’t be bothered with all the palaver and you’re happy to compromise with two fewer cylinders, this S5 is ready to switch hands immediately.
