The most popular used cars on the internet – right now

The second-hand car market has never felt so vibrant, the dizzying world of EVs ensuring there’s more choice than ever. But Drivenbuy, powered by Sytner Group can help you cut through the classifieds to find something perfect. These are the cars setting internet search bars alight as car enthusiasts clamour for something to beat the new car waiting lists – just in time for heated seat season…

VW Golf GTI
  • Audi Q5

Is this now the definitive middle class SUV? The Q5 launched over 15 years ago as the natural next step after the almighty Q7, but it’s since morphed through numerous generations into perhaps the most capable Audi family car of them all. As well as oh-so-easily justified diesel and hybrid models there’s the punchy SQ5 to appease petrolheads in need of practicality.

  • Mercedes-Benz GLB

For those who require seven seats but aren’t sold on the eminent sense of a people carrier, the Mercedes GLB is here to save the day. Cleverly mating compact dimensions to gnarly SUV styling and three rows of accommodation, family transport just gained a welcome extra layer of tinsel – especially given UK cars are almost all blessed with AMG trim, for extra school gate kudos.

  • Range Rover Evoque

It was a stroke of genius to label the dinky Evoque as a Range Rover and the car remains crucial to Land Rover as the British firm pumps out cars of all shapes and sizes. If a Defender is too large and domineering, the curvier, more compact lines of a little Evoque ought to slot onto your driveway and through urban traffic much easier. Especially with a bunch of efficient plug-in hybrids to choose from.

  • BMW i4

BMW has made sure to cling lovingly to its heritage as its cars evolve into a new era of propulsion. The attractive i4 takes all the Teutonic style, smart handling and punchy power we’ve adored in the 3 Series for decades and electrifies the whole lot, even employing movie soundtrack genius Hans Zimmer to develop an all-new ‘engine’ sound. A clever blend of old and new values.

  • Audi Q6 e-tron

Mind, the most competitive EV area right now is chunky crossovers and the Audi Q6 is the latest to join a growing field. It does so with a new look behind those four rings and an astonishing amount of refinement; here’s an electric car leaning comfortably into all the benefits a whisper-quiet powertrain can bring to a plush SUV. Quattro all-wheel-drive is standard while the swifter SQ6 hits 62mph as quickly as an original Audi R8.

  • Volvo EX30

One of the biggest selling EVs in Europe a mere year into its life, the EX30 has already established itself as something of a smash hit. Ignore all the old tropes of boxy, unsexy Volvo estates; those were outdated even before the EX30’s squat stance, minimalist design and plush materials arrived to keep the Swedes right at the cutting edge. All baked into the best value and most accessible Volvo for a generation.

  • Mercedes-Benz EQS

While it launched almost a decade after the Tesla Model S, the EQS has a pioneer spirit about it. Arriving as Merc’s first bespoke EV and with a new-gen design to match, its incredibly slippery bodyshell helped it carve cleanly though the air for over 400 miles of range when many competitors had only mastered half that in the real world. Rivals are catching up now, of course, but who doesn’t love a bit of early adopter cachet?

  • Volvo XC90

A classic of the SUV genre, if such a thing doesn’t sound too preposterous when the second-gen car only launched in 2014. The fact it’s going strong ten years later (barely looking a fraction of its age) proves the Gothenburg designers absolutely nailed their brief. That such deft design is wrapped around an enormously practical seven-seater is the icing on the Daim cake. You’ll love the performance of the 449bhp T8 hybrid that makes up most of the Sytner classified ads, too…

  • Range Rover Sport

Already in its third iteration, the Range Rover Sport is pillar of the performance SUV world. A trailblazer from launch, the gen3 car lifts it into an even more luxurious realm. Less of a little brother to Range Rover and now a car that stands confidently in its own right, the Sport dazzles most in astounding, 630 horsepower SV form. Those less keen to outrun the horizon will do just fine with a diesel or hybrid.

  • VW Golf GTI

As recognisable as a 911, MINI or Defender, the Golf recently marked its 50th birthday to truly cement its icon status. Not that it was ever in doubt. Here’s a car that defies class structure to suit most budgets and needs, right up to those of true petrolheads who need something a little less compromising than a sports car. A neat balance of keen performance but utmost practicality has been a mainstay since the first GTI right up to its current eighth-gen, seeing it outlive most other hot hatch badges.

  • Audi RS3

Need something a little feistier? The Golf’s core platform also hosts something much more aggressive in the unmistakeable shape of the RS3. It takes the classic Audi combination of five-cylinder turbo power and all-wheel drive, a regular in its range since the Quattro launched over 40 years ago, and mates it to Sportback or Saloon bodies united in their assertive design. A scintillating soundtrack ensures the RS3 barks at least much as it bites.

  • BMW M2

German performance comes in all shapes and sizes, though, the RS3’s toughest foe being the butch two-door M2 Coupe. As the M3 and M4 have swelled in power, size and price, here’s a car that now arguably represents the M Division ethos in its purest form. Not least because it still offers a six-speed manual gearbox as well as a paddleshift auto, with Sytners’ used stock offering plenty of choice across both transmissions.

  • Mercedes-Benz CLA

Remember the CLS? Mercedes reinvigorated the idea of the four-door coupe back in the early Noughties and a whole host of rivals followed, the ultimate sign of success. But while the CLS has slipped quietly into retirement, its dinkier (but no less arresting) CLA sibling has never been in better health – especially in AMG CLA 45 form with over 400 horsepower and the drift mode of its all-wheel drive.

  • Alpina B4 Gran Coupe

Here’s another four-door coupe. The Gran Coupe has been a BMW mainstay for over a decade, applied across 4, 6 and 8 Series ranges and bringing even more panache to Munich’s saloon range (who doesn’t love the glamour of frameless windows…). Well, glamour abounds under the sheen of a luxe Alpina makeover, the famed BMW tuner now taken in-house, so proven is its record. The svelte B4 or D4 respectively pair muscular petrol or diesel powertrains to smart AWD.

  • Jaguar F-Type

Any moment now, Jaguar will reveal full details of its extravagant relaunch; its dramatic move upmarket in the brave new EV world. We’re excited, but we can also respectfully wave cheerio to the end of its current era, right? There’s no better way to do it than an F-Type, the gorgeous coupe and cabrio that’s been on sale over a decade and spanned all manner of engine types – though surely a growling V8 is the perfect way to truly mark Jaguar’s promising transition to a plug-in future.
