Nine of the most expensive car parts sold on eBay in 2023
Anyone for a McLaren P1 monocoque, or a BMW M5’s twin-turbo V8?
BMW F90 M5 engine (£12,272)
Kicking things off with one of the very best engines of the modern era, a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 meant for the F90 BMW M5 tops the list of eBay’s biggest 2023 sales. Capable of pushing the big saloon to 60 in around three seconds, perhaps it’ll be bolted onto a Mazda MX-5 next?

Is anyone else surprised at this? Made entirely of carbon fibre and purpose-built for one of the greats, whoever got hold of this McLaren P1 monocoque and roof panel pairing has just landed themselves a wonderful (albeit pointless) garage ornament. Sure, it doesn’t look quite as glamorous in this image, but let’s think about the bigger picture here.
BMW F80 M3 brakes (£8,983)
What astonishes us about this set of F80 BMW M3 carbon ceramic brakes is just how much they’re worth, considering the entire car can be found loitering for under thirty grand these days.

Yep, another one. This has gone for around two-thirds of the price of the first engine though, probably because of some extra mileage. Still, these ‘S63’ eight-cylinder blocks are a fine BMW performance engine, so it’ll work great in your stick-it-in-a-1-Series project.
Mercedes-AMG GT brakes (£8,411)
Some more stoppers, but this time created for Merc’s flagship two-seat coupe. It’s quite astonishing that these were sold for less than the M3’s, but the eBay marketplace can be a strange place sometimes. Somewhere, someday, we may even see a set of Dacia Sandero brakes sell for this much. Possibly.
BMW F16 X6 engine (£8,268)
The third-generation BMW X6 had a variety of engines to choose from, and one of those was the M50d quad-turbo engine. It’s estimated to put out around 376bhp, which is one of the few good things about this still-awkward-looking crossover/SUV.
Porsche 911 engine (£8,277)
Yep, nestled away among the selection of relatively new combustion engines is a true gem in Porsche’s 2.4-litre flat-six. Now almost 50 years old, the output is… low. Around 190bhp to be exact. But provided the new owner attaches it to something small, light, and focused, it'll all be fine.

Mercedes-AMG W205 C63 engine and gearbox (£7,267)
Let’s end on a high note. Literally. The W205 C63 is an absolute monster with 469bhp. Its 4.0-litre Biturbo V8’s impressive showing is only heightened further by a thumping drum solo of a soundtrack. Oh, this one also came with the seven-speed automatic gearbox, and all in, cost a Caribbean holiday less than the M3’s brakes.
