Here are some special classic cars we found this week for under £20,000
Got a fair chunk of cash to spend on a cherishable weekend toy? These cars could be for you
Nissan 300ZX
Anyone for a Nissan 300ZX with a twin-turbo V6 up front, a Targa roof in the middle and a pair of Channel Tunnel-sized exhausts out back? The pearl metallic coat and BBS alloys offer proper ‘90s Japanese sports car vibes, and the performance still stands strong by today’s standards: 0-62mph in 5.9s, a top speed of 155 and *all* the right whistles and flutters on the way there.

If an old Jag is what you’re after, you’re spoilt for choice for as little as two or three grand. But to truly set yourself apart from the ordinary, taking a punt on this engine-swapped Mark 2 would do you well. The bodywork and cabin have both been reconditioned too, so expect many heads to be turned on that drive home - and every drive thereafter too.
Alfa Romeo Spider
You can forgive the horrible seat upholstery colour combination in this fourth-generation Alfa Romeo Spider because of that clean black exterior, further supported by a single centrally-mounted exhaust and those lovely alloy wheels. That five-speed manual looks like it’s paired with a 2.0-litre twin-cam inline-four too, so it should be good fun on a twisty mountain pass.

We like to throw the odd track car into these lists, and this week we’ve found a special one. Click here for a stripped-out, rebuilt MK2 Escort which now has a 190bhp Zetec engine, straight-cut gears and probably weighs as much as a Chihuahua. Likely handles like one too.
Autozam AZ-1
An adorable kei car with gullwing doors and attractive blue paint, though you will need to get your sweet talk on to sneak it under this week’s budget. Successfully do so, and you could be sat on a car that’s only ever likely to appreciate. Maybe. Please do not consider this official financial advice.
Wildcard: Vauxhall Astra GSI
There’s a lot to squeeze into one paragraph here, but we’ll try our best. It’s a turbocharged, Saab-engined, Vauxhall Astra GSI that's making 800bhp with the potential to up that to 1,000bhp. It weighs 680kg and cracks a quarter-mile in 8.4 seconds. If you grew up in the Max Power era, this is everything you need to live out you childhood fantasies. And at a fair price too.
