Rejoice, for the Honda Civic Hybrid returns to America next year
The new Civic Hybrid replaces the dearly departed Insight sedan
You Brits might already be enjoying the 11th-generation Civic Hybrid, but over in the United States, Honda’s been holding out. Oh, sure, we had older versions of the Civic Hybrid, but then Honda decided to revive the Insight nameplate, originally giving us a dumpy little four-door followed by the much nicer third-gen Insight, based largely on the 10th-gen Civic.
Now, though, Honda’s compact hybrid will once again be offered as part of the Civic family, and the automaker confirmed this week that it’ll return to North America in mid-2024. Honda will offer the Civic Hybrid in both sedan and hatchback body styles, with a new 2.0-liter I4 engine and two-motor hybrid drive system built in Ohio.
The Civic Hybrid sedan will come first, with production expected to start next spring. This one will be manufactured at Honda’s facility in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. The hatchback, meanwhile, arrives a little later, and it’ll roll off the line at Honda’s plant in Greensburg, Indiana.
Mum’s the word on any specific details about the Civic Hybrid, other than its launch timing. The current Civic is a solid little car, and we have no reason to believe the gasoline-electric version will tarnish that goodness.
