Owners of US 911 GT3s can now upgrade to the Manthey Racing kit for $57k

If you own a Porsche 911 GT3 in the United States of America, then firstly, congratulations! Wonderful car, that. Secondly, it is likely you will be interested in gaining precious seconds around a very scary racetrack, because you own a Porsche 911 GT3 and it’s that sort of car.

Porsche Cars North America has now announced that a performance kit developed by its partner Manthey Racing is now available for purchase and installation at an official Porsche centre.

The kit comprises a larger spoiler lip and new side flaps up front, and modified air guide elements on the GT3’s underbody which together increase all-important downforce on the front axle. It gets wilder at the back, with a wider swan-neck rear wing complete with a Gurney flap and wider end plates. Heck, Porsche says even the wing’s ‘angle of attack’ is bigger.

The rear diffuser fins are also bigger and made of CFRP, while aerodiscs on the rear wheels continue the car’s additional aero efficiency. The MR kit also throws in four-way coilover suspension specially developed by Porsche and Manthey, allowing for “adjustment to four positions without tools”. Along with the damping levels, the spring rates have been increased by 10 per cent on the front axle and seven per cent at the rear. There are braided steel brake lines too.

And it’s these small, targeted improvements that allow for a faster Nürburgring lap time. Porsche says an example of a Manthey Racing-upgraded 911 GT3 was able to complete a lap of That Place in just 6m 55.737s, which is 4.19s faster than a ‘regular’ GT3. Think of the bragging rights!

The kit starts from $57,300, and for an extra $15,500 you can buy the lightweight forged wheels too. Though, if it feels like an enormous outlay, Porsche is offering a ‘try before you buy’ – spend just $1,675 and you’ll be treated to a 90-minute session to compare a 911 GT3 with and without the MR kit at selected centres in the States.

“Starting this year, owners of the current 911 GT3 in the U.S. will be among those able to benefit from that expertise,” said Porsche Cars North America CEO Kjell Gruner. “I hope to see examples this September at Laguna Seca for Rennsport Reunion 7!”
