This new kit will turn your 964 into a monstrous off-roading Porsche 911
Russell Built Fabrication is now offering a ‘Safari Sportsman’ kit for the 964. We want one
If you’re a fan of high-riding, off-roading Porsches then you’re in the right place. You may remember the name Russell Built Fabrication – that’s the company behind the wild Baja 911 we first featured back in December 2019. Good memory, you.
Anyway, Russell Built is now back, and this time the offering has piqued our interest even more. The Californian firm is now offering kits so that normal people (who have enough money to own a Porsche 964) can transform their 911s into similar off-road monsters.
The Safari Sportsman kit you see here starts from $135,000 (if you already own a 964) and Russell Built says that includes installation, paint and tuning.
It’s a little tamed down from the full Baja 911, with the package focusing on the suspension system and that ‘Turbo-look’ widebody, but apparently the kit was installed on the Rothsport Racing 911 that won its class at the 2021 Baja 500 in Mexico.
“In the last few years we have been outfitting and preparing some of the world’s most extreme off-road oriented 911s,” says RBF founder TJ Russell. “We wanted to take the knowledge and experience and turn it into something more obtainable for 964 owners.”
As part of the Safari Sportsman transformation, the suspension, hubs, brakes, wheels and tyres are all swapped out for heavy-duty items that provide a wider track, a two-inch longer wheelbase and 10 inches of wheel travel.
The widebody kit brings new front and rear bumpers plus front and rear arch extensions and all of the underbody protection, although all the extra rally-spec lights and the carbon fibre roof rack are optional extras. Go on, tick every possible box.
There’s also the option of a roll hoop and a harness bar – probably best to go for – and RBF will even upgrade your 964 gearbox and engine if your bank balance allows. There are 310bhp, 350bhp and 400bhp iterations on the menu, in case you were wondering.
Thoughts, folks?
