Here's the 'affordable' Tesla you've been waiting for*

*Kinda. American toy builder partners with Tesla to create mini Model S

Published: 16 Feb 2016

A ‘more affordable’ Tesla is coming soon. But for now – and we suspect for a while yet – this is the cheapest way into a Tesla. The catch? It’s only a little over 4ft long.

It’s a Tesla Model S in miniature. Supposedly developed in collaboration with Tesla itself, the little S is the work of Radio Flyer – a longtime builder of tricycles, wagons, scooters and the like. Designed to accommodate three to eight-year olds, the S can lug around 37kg at a maximum speed of 6mph. And because it’s a Tesla – kinda – we bet it reaches said speed in about a femtosecond. Probably.

And like the big Tesla, there are many optional extras. Silver wheels add $15 to the $499 (£346) base price, a ‘premium’ battery for more range adds $50 and an indoor cover another $50.

Not cheap, but wouldn’t you have loved one of these when you were a kid?
