This is the first US-only, $314k Porsche 911 GT3 RS Tribute car

Or, to give it its full, very lengthy title, a GT3 RS wearing a ‘Tribute to Carrera RS Package’

Published: 21 Feb 2023

It’s officially called the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Carrera RS Package, a ridiculously long-winded name for a ridiculously good car. At its core, it is one of the best drivers’ cars ever built shod in a retro suit.

Last summer, Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger exclusively told TopGear.com about his desire to pay tribute to the original Carrera RS, and so this GT3 wears the glorious white und green colours of that original 2.7.

Specifically, it wears ‘Python Green’ over the magnesium wheels, mirror housings, ‘GT3 RS’ side graphics and the ‘Porsche’ lettering underneath the rear wing, while there’s an American flag on the wing end plates to let you know that this is US-market only.

Elsewhere, buyers get a custom car cover, green RS valve stem and key caps, custom plates, green interior stitching and even a pair of scaled 1:43 model cars: one’s the new GT3 RS, the other is – unsurprisingly – the ’73 Carrera RS. Illuminated sills ensure you won't forget which one you've bought.

The car comes complete with the Weissach Pack too, so along with lots of exposed carbon fibre and those magnesium wheels, you’ll also find anti-roll bars, coupling rods and a shear panel all made from yet more carbon fibre.

“As a car enthusiast growing up, my walls were plastered with models that I was particularly fond of,” Preuninger told TG last year. “One of the most influential was the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. As a young kid it captured my imagination and even today it puts a smile on my face.

“That’s where the styling inspiration of the 996 GT3 RS came from, which was one of my first projects at Porsche. At the time, that car felt totally extreme so colours nodding to the forefather made sense. It’s a very emotional moment for me to pay tribute to the first 911 RS model with our most extreme and capable 911 GT3 RS yet.”

Each car costs $314,000 (including delivery), which is some $88k more than the ‘standard’ version of one of the best drivers’ cars ever built.
