Cute! Check out this baby Toyota Supra Jr dragster
Toyota develops a mini version of its GR Supra Funny Car. Isn’t it sweet!
Looking to get your kids away from their devices and into a new sport? Well, you’re welcome, because we’ve got just the thing for those precious sprogs…
Or rather, Toyota and TRD USA have just the thing, because what you see here is the GR Supra Jr Roadster – essentially a mini version of the full-fat, 11,000bhp GR Supra Funny Car - built to get kids into drag racing. It’s so adorable!
Now, you won’t quite get Funny Car levels of power from the Jr Supra, but you can buy the thing for just $13,995 from Half Scale Dragsters in the US. Your engine then comes separately and can range from around five to 50bhp, and you can then race in the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League.
The GR Supra Jr Roadster is the first of its kind, but Toyota wants other manufacturers to get in on the baby-dragster act too.
“Our TRD engineers have worked closely with Antron Brown, who fields Jr. Dragsters, to ensure that the new Jr. Roadster is ready for a class of its own and we hope that our other OEM partners in NHRA will design their own bodies for the cars and we can see them all competing very soon,” said Paul Doleshal, group manager for Toyota Racing in the US.
Oh, and you don’t need to worry about trailer costs for the mini rocketship either, because it’s the perfect size to fit in the bed of a Toyota Tundra. Well, presumably any similarly-sized pickup truck will do, but it’s nice to keep these things in the family, isn’t it?
