This is the brand new Infiniti QX80, a monster new turbo V6 SUV

In the competitive world of luxury automotive, Infiniti tends to get unfairly lost in the shuffle. We say 'unfairly' because there isn’t much to dislike about its vehicles, they simply don’t leave much of a mark these days. Perhaps this wallflower period is set to end as it revealed the all new 2025 Infiniti QX80, a striking luxury SUV we can’t take our eyes off.

The new full-sized SUV is a hard reset for the Japanese automaker’s flagship people-mover, the first of a big lineup refresh that Infiniti calls its “product renaissance".

While it retains some of the features of the outgoing car, the new SUV is less chubby-cheeked than its predecessor, presenting itself with sharper lines and a more chiseled overall exterior. All told, it looks like a blend of Range Rover and Lexus stylings.

At its core, the new QX80 is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that whips up 450hp and 516 lb ft of torque, an increase of both figures over the 5.6-liter V8 it's replacing. Power is sent to either the rear or all the wheels by way of a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The new SUV’s frame is apparently 57 per cent stiffer and can be fitted with air suspension as well as a set of electronically actuated dampers Infiniti calls its “dynamic digital suspension” to reduce bumps and body roll. Its air suspension can further smooth things out, as well as increase the ride height by 2.4in when it needs to be more rugged, but it can also lower a whole 2.8in when parked to drop off passengers with ease.

Within the overhauled interior are two 14.3in displays that, among other things, work in tandem with a number of cameras to provide improved situational awareness. Its “front wide view” provides drivers the viewing angles to see around parked cars or the ability to better navigate tight parking areas while an “invisible hood view” enables a virtual pass-through look at the terrain ahead, similar to what’s featured in the new Defender.

There are a number of safety features and luxury conveniences, though the ones that stand out start with the second row. Now rear passengers can enjoy the heating and cooling functions of the first row, along with massage functions. This row is also provided with biometric cooling, which means the car will measure the rear passengers with an infrared sensor in the headliner and adjust the climate controls to keep them comfortable. Creepy, but cool. The third row isn’t as luxurious but it also has a heated seat function.

There's a 'Journey Diary' function that can capture photos and videos inside and out of the car for [shudders] social media sharing, memories, or evidence. The QX80 is fitted with a premium audio system from Klipsch, ranging from a 12-speaker system to a 24-speaker set with 1,200 watts of power and an 8in subwoofer.

All told, the QX80 comes in six grades, the base rear-drive model starting at $82,450 with the top-tier Autograph 4WD coming in at a whopping $110,595. We’ll see the Infiniti QX80 in person at this year’s New York International Auto Show where its set to make its live debut.
